INFORMATION
General description
The coat is reddish in spring and summer, and gray to brown in winter.
Likewise, in the tropical zones, in the low and warm lands, it is ochraceous (yellowish) or reddish in color, and in the high and cold lands it is grayish brown.
The tip of the tail is white, which is used to beat it as an alarm signal.
The males have branched antlers inclined backwards, which as adults and depending on age reach between 8 and 64 cm from the base and are renewed every year, in winter, after mating.
It has scent glands around the eyes, on the forehead and on the legs, which together with urine it uses to communicate, mark territory, attract the opposite sex and as a sign of danger.
Habitat
It lives in different ecosystems, in the subarctic region, passing through the dry forests on mountain slopes, tropical rain forests, to dry forests.
Diet
Search among the vegetation to consume leaves, shoots, fruits and seeds, bushes, acorns, mushrooms, and some types of sweet fruits that are available. These animals are hunted for their meat.
