At Apami Wildlife Rescue Center, you’ll have a truly immersive experience in the field, where you’ll learn about environmental enrichment, behavioral observation, identification of individual and group needs, and how to design strategies to improve the quality of life of each individual.
You’ll also work as a team with professionals committed to the well-being of wild animals.

Minimum duration: 1 month

Maximum duration: 6 months

Maximum capacity: 2 people

The objective of this internship is to provide participants an ethical practice focused on the principles of animal welfare, applied behavioral analysis, physical and emotional rehabilitation, the design of environmental enrichment activities that promote the development of natural behaviors, and the preparation and presentation of diets.

You will actively collaborate in the observation, analysis, and documentation of animal behaviors, both individual and group. You will design and implement sensory, cognitive, physical, nutritional, and social enrichments tailored to different species and management objectives. These tools reduce stress, build confidence, and promote the animals’ overall well-being. You will explore the fundamentals of behavioral analysis applied to animal welfare. You will learn to conduct functional behavioral assessments, identify factors that maintain or modify behavior, and propose data-driven interventions. You will develop skills to plan and adjust strategies based on each animal’s needs.
Rehabilitation:
You will have the opportunity to be directly involved in wildlife rehabilitation processes, collaborating in the management and monitoring of orphaned or recovering animals. You will provide support during the pre-release stages, both in medical preparation and behavioral assessment, ensuring that the individuals are in optimal condition for return to their natural environment. This depends on the number of cases we have during your internship. During this internship, you will also assist with cleaning and maintaining facilities, preparing and presenting meals, and similar tasks that will arise during your stay at AWRC.
